Ingram: WHAT I'M EXCITED ABOUT GPLEX 2022

GPLEX
BY MALCOLM INGRAM

Local GPLEXs are fun; GPLEXs outside of Philadelphia are magical. Case in point: GPLEX Seattle 2018. Admittedly, I’m biased because this is my favorite GPLEX. But setting that aside, there is truly something special about traveling to another city with fellow civic-minded Philadelphians to learn and discuss what we can or cannot bring back to improve Philadelphia.

In 2018, we went to Seattle to learn about Seattle’s rapid growth and the positive and negative outcomes associated with this growth. Since then, life as we know it changed everywhere. The COVID-19 pandemic began, and its wake continues to exacerbate pre-pandemic issues, including crime, poverty, affordable housing, and transportation, among others. It is my understanding that at GPLEX, we will learn and discuss how Detroit is tackling these issues. And I look forward to these discussions.

But as we count down the days until GPLEX Detroit, I am most excited about seeing and collaborating with all of you again in person.  The relationships we develop and deepen at GPLEX are not only invaluable but ultimately strengthen Philadelphia.  See you soon!
