Navigating Change, Honoring our Past

Protecting and Advancing Equity—Together
Dear Readers,
In moments of transition, we are reminded of what defines us—not just as individuals, but as a collective striving for a stronger, more inclusive Philadelphia. The 2024 election has brought a new administration, signaling shifts in economic and social policies that will shape our city’s future. These changes raise crucial questions about long-term economic stability, workforce readiness, and equitable growth. We know that left unchecked, these shifts could deepen disparities in housing, education, healthcare, and job opportunities. It is up to us to ensure that Philadelphia continues to grow equitably, sustainably, and with resilience.
History tells us that Philadelphia’s strength is in its people. We see it in the resilience of our small business owners innovating despite economic shifts, in our workforce that continues to adapt to new opportunities, and in the civic leaders advocating for policies that uphold equity, inclusion, and shared prosperity. This moment calls on us all to be both pragmatic and bold. It is a time to double down on investments in workforce upskilling, local entrepreneurship, and community-driven economic strategies that ensure growth benefits every neighborhood. It is a time to harness the energy of engaged voters, business leaders, and policymakers to keep Philadelphia moving forward—not just in recovery, but toward lasting, inclusive prosperity.
Our work at the Economy League will continue to reflect this commitment. We will bring forward the data, insights, and analysis that our region needs to adapt with agility and confidence. The policies ahead may test us, but they will not define our future, We will. Let’s move forward with purpose, knowing that the best way to shape the future is to engage with it fully—boldly, inclusively, and with a steadfast belief in Philadelphia’s potential.
With determination and optimism,
Saloni Tandon
