GPLEX 360

GPLEX360 was born out of the desire to create a home for ongoing cohort connections and experiences. A once-a-year meeting of the minds only taps into a small amount of the potential for this program, so 360 seeks to extend the mission and best parts of the conference for our community. Now we can connect almost every month to learn, question, and be curious as a group of powerful change-makers.

GPLEX360: Tipsy Women's History

On March 15th, the Economy League hosted its second GPLEX360 event of the year at Ross Commons on Drexel's Campus, and it was a night to remember!  We celebrated Women's History Month in style with the second annual Tipsy Women's History Event.

History buffs and women enthusiasts alike gathered to enjoy an evening filled with drinks (alcoholic or not!), delicious food, and captivating storytelling! Local historians Emma Hart, Abigail Henry, and Kathy Peiss took the stage to share intriguing tales of remarkable women and groups from our region who left a mark on history.

The theme for the night was collective action, highlighting the incredible impact of unity. Featured figures included Esther De Berdt, a former First Lady of Pennsylvania who played a pivotal role in the fight for the American Revolution; Emilie Davis, a free Black woman whose journal writings contributed significantly to the abolitionist movement; and Dyketactics, a fearless Lesbian group whose advocacy for equal rights reverberated throughout the city.

These stirring stories underscored the power of our collective voices in shaping history.  Let's continue to celebrate and amplify the voices of those who have paved the way for progress

GPLEX360: Screening of Pardon Me

The Economy League of Greater Philadelphia kicked off its GPLEX360 series in 2024 with an impactful screening of "Pardon Me" on January 23rd at the West Philadelphia Skills Initiative.

"Pardon Me" is a compelling documentary short film that delves into the transformative power of pardons, shedding light on how they enable individuals to fully engage as citizens and positively contribute to their communities, particularly those in lower-income areas.

Following the screening of this thought-provoking film, attendees engaged in a stimulating discussion with the director and a panel of experts deeply immersed in the pardon landscape. Notable speakers included Jeff Brown, founder of Brown's Superstores and Uplift Solutions; Julie Wertheimer, Project Director of Mental Health and Justice Partnerships at The Pew Charitable Trusts; Tobey Oxholm, Director of the Pardon Project at Philadelphia Lawyers for Social Equity; and Shuja Moore, a community activist and the visionary behind "Pardon Me."

The film artfully weaves together interviews with influential civic leaders and the poignant narratives of individuals navigating the pardon process, offering a poignant exploration of Philadelphia-area challenges and opportunities.
