World Class Greater Philadelphia Moves Forward

November 5, 2010

A major milestone in the strategic planning phase of World Class Greater Philadelphia, this two-day workshop leveraged the power of scenario planning to provide an honest accounting of what the future may hold for Greater Philadelphia, its institutions, communities, and governments. In mid-October, locally based, internationally renowned strategy firm Decision Strategies International guided a diverse cross-sector group of  30 regional leaders through a series of exercises centered on the key forces and trends that may affect the region's future and the different ways these issues could play out over time. The result was the essence of four scenarios of the future of our region, which will serve as the foundation for developing regional strategies around a core set of key success factors -- those things that must be done for the region to prosper irrespective of how the future unfolds.

What's Next?

Based on the alternative future scenarios, the creation of a Global Positioning Strategy—a “GPS”—that describes a set of short- and long-term goals to ensure a world class future for the region.

The Economy League will facilitate working groups that focus on priority strategies that emerge from the GPS and track regional progress toward shared goals.
