The Philadelphia Foundation said it has commissioned the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia to determine the financial health and economic impact of southeastern Pennsylvania's nonprofit sector.

The study will look at nonprofits in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties, which are the organizations that the large majority of the foundation's grants go to.

The Economy League will present its initial results to the Philadelphia Foundation in December and a full report in the first quarter of 2009.

The Philadelphia Foundation is a community foundation based in Philadelphia that manages more than $350 million in assets. It gave out $20 million in grants last year.
