    2013 LEADERSHIP EXCHANGE: PHILADELPHIA

    OCTOBER24-25, 2013

INNOVATION AND COLLABORATION AROUND SHARED AGENDAS

Join us in Philadelphia for 1 and 1/2 days of learning and networking with a cohort of emerging and established leaders from diverse sectors, industries, and counties. The first day features a welcome luncheon followed by Regional Explorations -- site visits to hubs of creative partnerships across the Delaware Valley. Return to Philadelphia for informal dinners at a selection of terrific Center City restaurants. The program continues the second day with a mix of engaging speakers and panels plus interactive discussions.

Our program is focused on sharing stories of cooperation - some by choice, some by circumstance -- that are moving Greater Philadelphia forward in such priority matters as education and workforce, regional infrastructure, and business growth.  We'll get behind each story to understand not just what's happening, but also how it keys into our region's future success.

The 2013 Greater Philadelphia Leadership Exchange offers a unique opportunity to expand your understanding of the region and some of the people, places, and organizations at the intersection of talent and transformation. Now in its 7th year, participants consistently rate the experience highly (at or above 4.5 of 5) for exposure to new information and ideas, building connections, and creating a community of people who can shape the region's future; 100% report the desire to apply for a future program.

Participation in the Leadership Exchange is a competitive process with a goal of representing the geographic, demographic, sector, and industry diversity in the region. To be eligible, applicants must live and/or work in the Greater Philadelphia region and serve in a leadership role in a business, nonprofit, or government organization.

Panel Discussion:

Innovative Financing of Shared Agendas

There's a lot out there in journals, at conferences, and in the news about new ways to achieve better outcomes, particularly when public money is involved. PFS (Pay-for-success) and SIBs (social impact bonds) are two examples we'll examine with an expert panel. Are these the "emperor's new clothes" or real tools to effect such change as higher test scores or smarter health interventions? Who needs to collaborate to make these work?

Case Study:

Collective Impact Around Workforce in Greater Cincinnati

In the beginning, there were three states with four workforce boards all working hard, but not together. By 2011, there was a regional partnership between businesses, workforce investment boards, chambers of commerce, secondary and post-secondary educational institutions, service providers and philanthropic funders provided by Partners for a Competitive Workforce. Partners provides a common platform to communicate priorities and progress, align and coordinate efforts toward common goals, and continuously improve strategy. Recipient of numerous national awards (National Fund for Workforce Solutions, National Skills Coalition, White House Council for Community Solutions), PCW has established collaboration as the "new normal" not just for growing and deploying a skilled workforce, but also for leveraging funds, collecting data, and measuring outcomes. Janice, whose specialty is developing talent and supply chains for manufacturing and construction, will tell us the story of how these many interests saw their way to collaboration and what they learned along the way

Case Study:

Aligning Funders Around a Shared Agenda

In this case study, we will explore the story of Cleveland's Fund for Our Economic Future, the organization leading an innovative and collaborative effort to capitalize on the strengths of the region to rebuild the economy. Sixty of the region's private and corporate foundations and institutions came together to identify priorities and then pledged funding to tackle them. The result was a detailed and well-funded regional economic development action plan, Advance Northeast Ohio, addresses four areas: business growth and attraction, talent development, growth through racial and economic inclusion, and government collaboration and efficiency. This work has garnered national attention and boasts real results. We'll hear how such a large, diverse set of leaders came together and set out on a new approach to improving the region's economy and resurrecting the region's nearly-forgotten history of innovation.
