Ingram: Shared Economic Growth for All

I am honored to head to Seattle for the 2018 Greater Philadelphia Leadership Exchange with Philadelphia’s brightest business, civic, and governmental leaders. According to Forbes, the Seattle area serves as the headquarters for numerous Fortune 500 companies. In turn, the city’s economy is thriving and an excellent example of what strong businesses across multiple sectors can do for a city.

Despite a booming economy, Seattle, like Philadelphia, is still working to increase diversity in its technology workforce. At Jackson Lewis P.C., we focus on assisting and defending employers in all employment-related disputes. This includes drafting, counseling, and training employers and their workforces on equal employment opportunity policies. By educating employers we help them better understand implicit bias, which in turn can lead to a more inclusive workforce. Unfortunately, systematic change does not occur over night, and inequalities regarding job opportunities for qualified diverse and minority workers persist in the greater Philadelphia area and beyond.

While observing and discussing problems is the first step in achieving change, more work must be done to achieve long-lasting change. This change requires conscious effort together with the development and implementation of tangible steps designed to correct past inequalities. I look forward to learning and growing together with the 2018 Leadership Exchange participants so that we can ensure that Philadelphia’s economic growth is shared by all employees and applicants without regard to their race, color, religious beliefs, sex, citizenships, age, national origin, disability, military or U.S. veteran status, or any other protected classifications, activities, or conditions.
